American Physician Scientists Association Mentorship Program

Program Overview

  • Longitudinal Mentorship Program :Final-year PhD/DPhil dual-degree students, clinical year medical students, residents, and fellows are invited to join a 6-year mentorship program with a family of AAP, ASCI, and near-peer mentors that meet in-person each year at the Joint Meeting and periodically throughout the year. Mentorship groups comprise late-stage trainees of varying levels and multiple established physician-scientists at various stages of their careers. The focus of this program is on launching careers as physician-scientists and accelerating research impact. Must be an APSA member to participate. Cross-Sectional Mentorship Program-First and second year medical students and PhD/DPhil-year trainees in dual-degree programs have the option of joining an AAP, ASCI, and near-peer mentorship group during the Joint Meeting. Mentorship groups comprise trainees of varying levels and career-level physician-scientists. These are one-time mentoring sessions focused on training advice and career exploration. However, trainees are welcome and encouraged to maintain contact with mentors. Must be an APSA member to participate.

Benefits

  • Mentors and mentees participate in monthly prompts with suggested topics. Mentor-mentee pairs can choose to meet for one-on-one sessions in person or via phone,Zoom, Skype. email, or messaging.
